1. Do I have to be a CAPM, PMP, to apply for other PMI certifications?
 
No one certification serves as a prerequisite for another.
 
2. Do I have to be a member of PMI to register to sit a PMI exam such as PMP; CAPM etc?
 
You do not have to be a PMI member to apply to become a certification holder.
 
3. How can I become a PMI/PMISCC Member? 
 
As a PMI member, you will have access to many benefits including discounts on your certification exam fee as well as discounts on professional development opportunities to help with the maintenance of your certification(s). Go to: https://www.pmi.org/membership/join to apply to become a member of PMI.  Cost is US$129.00. Select Join a PMI Chapter.  Choose Southern Caribbean Chapter. Cost US$20.00. Add to cart.  Each membership is valid for one year.
 
4. How long is my PMI/PMISCC membership cycle valid for?
 
PMI/PMISCC membership is valid for one year from the date of your membership activation. You can renew your membership as early as 90 days from your expiration date. 
 
5. Where can I get information on the process for registering to sit an examination?
 
All information on certification applications are available online. Go to the PMI https://www.pmi.org/certifications/process website.  Click the "Apply" button on these web pages. Please note that any missing information on the application will delay processing.
 
6. Do I have to be a PMI member to apply for a PMI Certification?
 
PMI membership is separate from PMI certifications. However, as a PMI member, you will have access to many benefits including discounts on your certification exam fee as well as discounts on professional development opportunities to help with the maintenance of your certification(s). 7. What are the eligibility requirements for sitting the PMP examination?
 
The eligibility requirements for each certification are mentioned on the following web page:  https://www.pmi.org/certifications/types and detailed in each respective certification handbook. 
 
8. Does PMISCC offer educational courses towards PMI certification?
 
From time to time the chapter may partner with recognized training institution for the facilitation of training. Information on educational institutions can be sourced on the PMI Website for online courses or by contacting the education institutions directly, or via the local newspapers.
  
9. Does PMISCC recommend educational providers to potential students for PMI certification?
 
Students should register with certified PMI Authorised Training Partners so that you can be confident that your training content and instructors align with PMI’s industry standards and credential testing.
 

10. What are the components of the PMI Talent Triangle?

  1. The PMI Talent Triangle outlines the three skill areas that employers need. These are:
  2. Technical Project Management: the knowledge, skills and behaviours related to specific domains of Project, Program and Portfolio Management. The technical aspects of performing one’s role.
  3. Leadership: the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to guide, motivate, and direct a team, to help an organization achieve its business goals.
  4. Strategic and Business Management: the knowledge of and expertise in the industry and organization that enhances performance and better delivers business outcomes.


11. How can I earn PDU’s?


There are two categories of professional development units (PDUs) that you can claim towards renewal — Education and Giving Back to the Profession.
You can earn your Education PDUs by attending the following:

  •  courses or training offered by PMI A.T.P.s or other education institutions
  • PMI SC Chapters Technical Sessions or Workshops
  • Online On demand Project Management courses
  • attending a PMI congress, SeminarsWorld® and other Project Management conferences or workshops or through self-directed learning.


Giving Back to the Profession is a unique opportunity for you to expand your knowledge and skills while growing both personally and professionally. Giving back to the professional can consist of the following:

  • Volunteering with the chapter
  • Developing content by presenting papers or presentations

Although not required for recertification, earning Giving Back PDUs is a great way to expand your horizons.


12. How are PDU’s assigned to a course or training session?


PDUs stand for Professional Development Units. PDUs are the measuring unit used to quantify your professional development as part of the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program. 1 PDU = 1 hour of learning/activity. Recertification requires an attainment of 60 PDUs over a 3-year cycle.
